In the presence of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Asaad Hassan Al-Zaidi
I gave a lecture to the teaching and professional staff and college students about the Iraqi Blood Fat Clinics Network Project (a pilot project)
It is a non-profit project, the idea of which was established by a lecturer in our college, M.M. Moataz Al-Sabah, in 2015. The project aims to establish specialized clinics that treat hereditary blood cholesterol diseases that lead to early heart disease under the pretext of (an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure) and because the disease is limited. In itself, it carries major health, social, psychological, moral and health consequences. The idea came about following up on the risk factor that leads to heart disease in a way that leads to preventing the onset of the disease.
All clinics operate in government hospitals so that their services are available to all classes of people, and there is no private clinic
In mid-February 2017, the first clinic was opened in Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital, followed by the establishment of 11 other clinics in 11 cities from Halabha in the north to Samawah in the south.
The World Atherosclerosis Society adopted this network as its scientific entity in June 2018.
The idea of teaching M.M. Moataz Al-Sabah was an example of success despite the serious challenges he was facing. The British and American medical media praised this success and published several articles about it.
Al-Teacher Al-Sabah decided to replicate this successful experience outside Iraq to help countries of the world benefit from it. He succeeded in opening the first blood lipid clinic in Syria, Jordan, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The World Heart Federation issued a booklet to health service providers around the world about the best methods used to implement its plan to combat blood cholesterol diseases. It used the experience of the teaching staff in our college, Dr. Moataz Al-Sabah, in it, as it is one of the most successful experiences in the Middle East and Africa region.
Al-Sabah won several international awards in honor of him for implementing this pioneering idea and helping the people of the Middle East and Africa fight cardiovascular diseases. He was hosted at the largest summit in the world in Washington to talk about his success.
